LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team participated in its first competition of the season at the PCCSC Men's Singlehanded Championship, Sept. 25-26, at Belmont Pier. Four sailors competed for UH with senior
Zachary Hester the top finisher in ninth place.
Oliver Toole (36 points) from Stanford and Sean Kelly (53) from Cal Maritime finished first and second, respectively. The pair qualified for the 2010 ICSA/LaserPerformance Singlehanded National Championship to be held in November in Tampa, Fl.
Hester was 75 points of the pace with a total of 111 points. Also sailing for UH were
Craig Schifferns(10th, 113 points),
William Petersen (12th, 150 points) and
Matthew Wenner (15th, 178 points). A total of 17 sailors were in the field with 14 races completed in a two-day span.
Next up for the Rainbows is the Stoney Burke Intersectional, Oct. 16-17, in Treasure Island, Calif.
