Warriors Open WAC Play By Hosting Louisiana Tech

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team opens Western Athletic Conference play by hosting Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Oct. 2 in Honolulu. Kick-off is 5:30 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.

 
The Warriors (2-2, 0-0 WAC) are coming off a 66-7 blowout of Charleston Southern last Saturday. Quarterback Bryant Moniz tied a school-record by throwing six first half touchdowns as Hawai'i led 49-7 at the half. Moniz finished the game with a career-high 395 yards passing with seven total touchdowns (6 passing, 1 rushing). Slot receiver Greg Salas, a preseason All-American, scored his first two touchdowns of the season while also grabbing seven catches for 131 yards. Defensively, linebacker Corey Paredes had a team-high 14 tackles.
 
Last Saturday the Bulldogs (1-3, 0-0) dropped their third straight game, a 13-12 decision to Southern Mississippi in Ruston, La. Tech committed three fourth quarter turnovers, including a costly interception with under three minutes left to play. Back-up quarterback Tarik Hakmi who replaced starter Colby Cameron after the first two possessions of the contest, completed 22-of-35 for 262 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
 
The two teams have met eight previous times with the Warriors holding a 6-2 advantage, including a 5-2 edge in WAC games. In Honolulu, UH has won all four meetings, including a 24-14 victory in 2008.
 
UH begins its 32nd season of WAC play. The Warriors are 121-118-3 all-time in 31 seasons and have won a share of three WAC titles.
