Cross Country Takes Eighth At Willamette Invite; Aitken Fifth

SALEM, Ore. – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team placed eighth at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational Saturday at Bush's Pasture Park. Senior Ashley Aitken led the way for the Rainbow Wahine with a fifth place individual finish.
 
The Napier, New Zealand native completed the 5K race in 17:38.76. Freshman Kevyn Murphy was the next UH finisher, placing 51st overall at 18:32.74 followed by Ali Williams (18:36.71/57th), Dominique Miller (18:48.69/74th), Ashlee Jimenez (19:15.79/98th), and Liisa Cushing (19:31.45/15th).
 
Other UH participants included Mariana Monasi (19:32.22/117th) and Rocio Sanchez (21:07.95/226th).
 
Idaho captured the “Cardinal” team championship with 55 points, which included 24 NCAA Division I, II, and III teams, followed by Alaska-Anchorage (95), Chico State (111), Lipscomb (127), UC Riverside (136), Portland (205), Whitworth (257), UH (26), Lewis & Clark (271), and Portland State (312).
 
Alaska-Anchorage's Miriam Kipng'eno won top individual honors with a time of 17:19.04.
 
UH will take the next week off before competing in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 16, in Santa Clara, Calif.
