Warriors Head To Fresno State For Crucial WAC Showdown

Riding a two-game win streak, the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team heads to the San Joaquin Valley for a Western Athletic Conference showdown against rival Fresno State, Saturday, Oct. 9. Kick-off is 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) at Bulldog Stadium.
 
The Warriors (3-2, 1-0 WAC) are coming off a 41-21 victory over Louisiana Tech in their WAC opener last Saturday at Aloha Stadium. Quarterback Bryant Moniz passed for a career-high 532 yards and four touchdowns. Slot receivers Kealoha Pilares set a new school record with 18 receptions for 217 yards and two scores while fellow slot Greg Salas tallied 10 catches for a career-high 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Safety Mana Silva picked off two passes while linebacker Corey Paredes had a team-high nine tackles.
 
Fresno State (3-1, 1-0) defeated Cal Poly, 38-17, last Saturday in Fresno. The Bulldogs led 21-17 at the half and out-scored the Mustangs 17-0 in the second half. Quarterback Ryan Colburn passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns and the Bulldogs accumulated 253 yards on the ground.
 
Hawai'i and Fresno State have met 42 times with the 'Dogs holding a slight 21-20-1 advantage. The Warriors won the last two meetings at Bulldog Stadium - a 32-29 overtime win over the then-No. 21-ranked Bulldogs, which was UH's first road win over a ranked team; and a 68-37 victory in 2006, which was the second-highest scoring total in the school's modern era.
 
Last season, the Bulldogs defeated the Warriors 42-17 at Aloha Stadium. Fresno State scored the game's first three touchdowns and led 28-3 at the half. The 'Dogs extended their lead to 42-3 before the Warriors scored twice in the fourth quarter. In his first career start, Moniz threw for 283 yards on 24-of-52 passing and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs rushed for 277 yards led by Ryan Matthews' 149. Colburn completed 12-of-14 pass attempts for 120 yards and two scores.
 
The Bulldogs are 2-0 at home this season while the Warriors are 1-1 on the road.
