Rainbow Warriors Bow Out Of All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team saw its final action after day four of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 5 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Senior Dennis Lajola captured a consolation singles match, while Lajola, Jeremy Tweedt, Jonathan Brooklyn and Jared Spiker were all bounced after the opening round of the doubles qualifiers.

After dropping a tough three-set match in the opening round of the singles qualifiers yesterday, Lajola rebounded with a 6-4, 7-5 straight-set win over Steven Eelkman Rooda of Virginia in a consolation match. Lajola wasn't so lucky in the opening round of the doubles qualifying stage. He and his partner, fellow senior Tweedt, lost 8-3 to Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling of host Tulsa. The freshman team of  Spiker and  Brooklyn also made a quick exit from doubles action after falling to Will Beck and Patrick Daciek of Virginia Tech, 8-4.

Next up for the Rainbow Warriors is the ITA Southwest Regional Championship, Oct. 21-25, in Irvine, Calif.
