Women’s Soccer Back In The Win Column

Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawa`i women's soccer team picked up its first win in more than a month with a 1-0 decision over Fresno State in a Western Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. UH improved to 3-10-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the WAC.

Skye Shimabukuro's goal in the 51st minute off an assist from Karli Look proved to be the game-winner as UH snapped a nine-match winless streak. It was UH's first win since a 3-2 victory over San Francisco in the Cal Invitational on Sept. 3. UH had tallied seven losses and two ties during the stretch since.

The win over Fresno State (4-7-2, 0-2 WAC) also kept the team in the WAC race. The top six teams advance to this year's WAC Tournament in Ruston, La., in early November.

After experiencing offensive woes, UH has now found the back of the net in the last three matches. Shimabukuro scored her second goal of the year as the 'Bows out-shot the Bulldogs, 10-5. Meanwhile, UH recorded its third shutout of the season.

The Rainbow Wahine will stay in California for the third and final contest of its road trip as UH takes on Cal State Bakersfield in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT).
