Local Boy Hunt Leads Warrior Volleyball Over Guelph

EDMONTON, Alberta – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team kicked off the Can-Am Challenge of Championship tournament with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 victory over the University of Guelph Thursday at Alberta's Main Gym.

Steven Hunt, a native of Toronto, led the Warriors with 12 kills to share team-high honors with All-American Jonas Umlauft. Hunt hit .318 for the match and tallied six digs, two service aces, and one block. Umlauft hit an identical .318 along with three digs and three blocks.

Outside hitter Josh Walker added nine kills and four digs while setter Nejc Zemljak dished out 33 assists and led the Warriors to a team hitting percentage of .287. UH recorded 12.5 total team blocks and limited the Gryphons to .000 hitting with 25 kills and 25 errors.

Left-side hitter Winston Rosser led Guelph with seven kills.

The Warriors continue the tourney Friday with a double-header against Calgary at 1:00 p.m. MT and Manitoba at 6:30 p.m. MT.
