HONOLULU –The No. 4 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (15-1, 5-0 WAC) swept through the San Jose State Spartans (8-13, 3-5) 25-16, 25-12 and 25-15 in front of a crowd of 7,040 at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday.
Hawai'i opened a 7-2 advantage to start the first set then used an 8-1 run later to push their lead to 17-7. Down 19-8, SJSU started to make a push, scoring the next three points to get it back to 19-11. But UH had too much, taking the first set 25-16.
San Jose State jumped out to a 4-2 lead to start the second set. The Spartans kept that two-point edge until UH used a quick four-point swing to take the lead at 8-6. Hawai'i went on a 16-3 run to get to set point at 24-10 before closing it out 25-12.

Dave Shoji was able to play 11 different players in the third set with
Alexis Forsythe getting two kills on her only two swings and
Kaela Goodman posting two kills on three swings. The Spartans again stayed in it early in the set, tying it at 5-5. But Hawai'i went on a couple of big runs en route to a 25-15 third set victory.
The Rainbow Wahine will next host Fresno State on Sunday at 5 p.m.
