HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Warrior football team put together another tremendous performance with a 27-21 win over No. 19 Nevada Saturday night at Aloha Stadium. The Warriors (5-2) won their fourth straight game and stayed perfect in Western Athletic Conference (3-0) play.

The Warrior got off to quick start then held off a late Wolf Pack rally for its first victory over a ranked team at Aloha Stadium since its 2007 win over Boise State. UH stayed a top the WAC ranking after its sixth straight league win dating back to last season. The Wolf Pack (6-1, 1-1), meanwhile, dropped their first game of the year.

For the second straight week the Warriors defense was simply ferocious. Nevada entered the game among the national leaders in offense, averaging 545 yards and 43 points a game.  But the Warriors pitched a shutout for nearly three quarters and held Nevada to just 293 yards of offense in all.

Nevada made a late surge, pulling within six points then recovering an onside kick for one final drvie. But the defense fittingly sealed the win when Mana Silva intercepted Colin Kapernick at the Warrior 12-yard line with just 1:30 remaining in the game.

Corey Paredes also came up big for the Warriors with two forced fumbles. One set up UH's first touchdown of the evening, while the other prevented a Wolf Pack touchdown in the third quarter when he punched the ball out of the end zone as Kaeperick neared the Warrior goal line.

Meanwhile, the UH offense put up just enough points. Bryant Moniz was his usual accurate self, completing 26-of-36 passes for 287 yards including a big touchdwon pass to Royce Pollard with five minutes remaining.
. Greg Salas hauled in 11 catches for 153 yards. Meanwhile Kealoha Pilares continued his scoring spree by logging two touchdown receptions.

The Warriors next travel to Logan, Utah and a matchup with Utah State on Saturday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is 3:00 p.m. MT (11:00 a.m. HT).
