No. 4 Rainbow Wahine Take Down Bulldogs In Three

HONOLULU –The No. 4 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (16-1, 6-0 WAC) swept the Fresno State Bulldogs (7-11, 2-5) 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17 in front of a crowd of 5,769 at the Stan Sheriff Center Sunday.
 
Kanani Danielson led the Rainbow Wahine, posting 13 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Chanteal Satele hit .364 with 11 kills while Brittany Hewitt and Emily Hartong both contributed five blocks apiece. Dani Mafua set the UH offense, going for 35 assists and seven digs.
 
An early 6-1 run by the Rainbow Wahine put UH ahead 7-3 at the start of the first set. But the Bulldogs responded with a three-point run, cutting it back to 8-7. Hawai'i dominated for most of the rest of the set, getting to set point at 24-15 before ending it 25-18.
 
Fresno State started out the second set well, taking an early 6-5 edge. A four-point run gave UH the lead back at 9-6, only to see the Bulldogs fight back to tie it at 12-12. Hawai'i used a 7-2 run to build a 20-15 lead before finishing off the set 25-18.
 
The Bulldogs opened the third set by scoring the first three points. They continued to hold the lead at 11-10 until a big 9-1 spurt gave UH the 19-12 advantage. From there, Hawai'i held control, finishing off the match with a 25-17 third set victory. Alexis Forsythe came off the bench to put up two blocks and two kills on her only two attempts in the set.
 
Hawai'i will next hit the road for a three-match trip, playing at Idaho (Oct. 21), Boise State (Oct. 23) and Utah State (Oct. 25).
