SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team completed competition with day three of the USTA/ITA Regional Tennis Championships hosted by San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center. UH's lone remaining was eliminated, while rainy weather ended consolation play for the tournament.
Nearly 100 players from a dozen West Coast schools are competing in the five-day tournament.
Barbara Pinterova and
Katarina Poljakova were the only Rainbow Wahine left today in the championship bracket as the seventh seed in doubles competition. However, the pair were knocked out of the tournament on Saturday in the round of 16 with a tight 9-7 loss to Danielle Lao and Lyndsay Kinstler of USC.
Meanwhile, junior
Magdalena Ploch remained alive in singles competition when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket with a tough three-set win over Kristina Smith of UC Irvine. Ploch, a transfer from UMass, won a super tiebreaker in the third set, 10-8. Her run ended however, as the consolation bracket was suspended due to inclement weather.
The Rainbow Wahine will next play a mock dual match against Stanford on Nov. 23 in Waikoloa, Hawai`i.
