Women’s Soccer Closes Season With Loss At Utah State

Box Score

LOGAN, Utah – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team concluded its 2010 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Utah State Sunday afternoon at Bell Field. The Rainbow Wahine ended the year 3-14-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Rainbow Wahine entered the match battling Fresno State for the sixth and final berth into the WAC Tournament to be held later this week in Ruston, La. But coming off an exhausting double-overtime loss to Nevada on Friday night, UH simply ran out of gas.  Any postseason hopes were dashed by Lauren Hansen, who recorded a hat trick for the Aggies (9-6-5, 5-2-1 WAC).

Hansen netted all three of her goals in the first half—with the barrage coming in the 2nd, 16th and 21st minute. She is the third opponent to record a hat trick against UH this year. Shantel Flanary tacked on a goal early in the second half to complete the scoring for the Aggies, who out-shot UH 23-9, including 15-1 in the second half.

The loss put an end to a disappointing season for the Rainbow Wahine, who showed signs of hope during league play, but ultimately tied the 1996 squad for most losses in season. UH finished eighth in the league standings and missed the WAC Tournament for the second straight year.
