Men’s Basketball Opens With Exhibition Versus Chaminade

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Warrior basketball team—led by new head coach Gib Arnold—will make its season debut with an exhibition game versus Chaminade on Saturday, Nov. 6. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The squad returns just four players from last year's squad that finished 10-20 overall and 3-13 in the Western Athletic Conference. Among the returnees is senior point guard Hiram Thompson, senior center Douglas Kurtz and forward Bill Amis, who returns to the court after being sidelined during the 2009-10 campaign with a foot injury. Also taking the court after sitting out last season is junior guard Zane Johnson, a transfer from Arizona.

Meanwhile, 10 new players join the Rainbow Warriors in 2010-11: four freshman, including sharpshooter Bo Barnes out of Scottsdale Christian in Arizona and a trio of high school standouts from Southern California in Jordan Coleman (6-4, G), Bobby Miles (6-1, G) and Trevor Wiseman (6-7, F); junior college transfers Dominick Brumfield (6-8, F, So.), Vander Joaquim (6-11, C, So.), Anthony Salter (5-11, G, Jr.) and Joston Thomas (6-7, F, So.) ; and transfers Pi`i Minns (6-3, G, So.) of Chaminade and Davis Rozitis (7-0, C, So.) of USC, both of whom will sit out this season per NCAA rules.

UH will again field a diverse squad with players from seven different states (Arizona, California, Florida, Hawai'i, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington D.C.) and three foreign countries (Angola, Brazil and Latvia).

Following its exhibition with Chaminade, the Rainbow Warriors will open the regular season versus Montana State on Nov. 12 in the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic.
