Women's Basketball Signs Three For 2011-12

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced the signing of three players to national letters of intent. Kalei Adolpho, Malia Cravens and Jasmine Ray have all committed during the early signing period.
 
Adolpho—a 6-1 post player—comes to UH from Moloka'i High School where she has been a standout student-athlete throughout her career lettering in basketball, track & field, and volleyball. Most recently, she helped lead the Farmers to an undefeated, 12-0 season and first ever state volleyball title. She was the league's 2009-10 Female Athlete of the Year as a junior and has been selected to numerous all-league teams in both basketball and volleyball and in track she placed third in the state in the high jump and seventh in the 1,500m run. The multi-talented Adolpho is also slated to play for the UH women's volleyball team as well.
 
“Kalei is a tremendous athlete and we are extremely excited to bring such a strong local product into our program,” says coach Takahara-Dias. “We look for her to be a dominant post player for us in the future.”

“Kalei will be a contributor in the middle for us,” Shoji said. “She's extremely quick and just needs to learn and gain more experience in volleyball. She has tremendous upside and we see a very bright future for her in our program.”
 
Cravens is a 5-10 forward who is a talented student-athlete both on and off the court. Last year, she averaged 6.8 points, 1.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 10.0 rebounds per game as a junior at Temecula Valley High School. In 2009-10, she earned second team all-league honors in basketball and was the state indoor high-jump champion (5'6”). In the classroom, she as been a Principal Award winner at TVHS all three years. Cravens is the younger sister of current UH Warrior, Siaki Cravens who is a defensive end on the football team.
 
“Malia is a great athlete and has a lot of potential. We are looking for her to bring speed and athleticism to our wings.” says Takahara-Dias.
  
Ray is a 5-6 point guard who earned 14 varsity letters while at San Bernardino High School in basketball, volleyball, track, and she played wide receiver, cornerback, and kicker for three seasons on the varsity football team. Ray was the most valuable player and the school's Female Athlete of the Year for all four years of her high school career. In basketball as a junior, she led the state in scoring, averaging 30.5 points per game and led the league in scoring, steals and rebounds. As a senior, Ray was 10th in the state in scoring and was ranked in the top 40 in rebounds and steals in the state. On the track, she broke the school record in the shot put while also participating in the discus, high jump, 100m dash, and was on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
 
“Jasmine is a playmaker. She will be an exciting player to watch for our fans who brings athleticism and is an offensive threat with the ball in her hands.” Takahara-Dias says.
