Box Score

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i softball team defeated the alumnae team, 9-2 on Friday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. A trio of pitchers held the alumnae at bay—Stephanie Ricketts, Kaia Parnaby and Jenna Rodriguez all pitched while the offense was led by Sarah Robinson who went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a solo home run.

The current UH squad posted two runs in the second inning on Robinson's two-run double to leftfield, driving in Alex Aguirre and Sharla Kliebenstein from second and third respectively.

In the third inning, Jessica Iwata led off with a single up the middle. After a pop-up to short, Iwata came all the way home on a double to left by Rodriguez.

Hawai`i then erupted for four runs in the fourth inning on a two-out rally. Kelly Majam started off with a single through the leftside of the infield and Iwata followed with a single through the center of the field. Jocelyn Enrique then drilled a double over the centerfielder to drive in Majam. Brynne Buchanan then reached on a fielding error on the second baseman and on the play both Iwata and Enrique scored off of an errant throw home. Alex Aguirre then came through with a double to left that scored the speedy Buchanan to give UH a 7-0 lead.

UH's Robinson led off the fifth inning with a home run to left. It was her second home run of the fall season. Later, with two outs, Mikalemi Tagab-Cruz drew a walk, and Tara Anguiano reached on a two-base fielding error on the centerfielder that allowed Tagab-Cruz to score for UH's ninth run.

The Alumnae got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Tasha Pagdilao was hit by a pitch and then advanced on a wild pitch. Kaulana Gould Williams then walked. After a strike out, Kehau Cofran Aina grounded out to short, pushing up both runners. Pagdilao then scored on a wild pitch and pinch-runner and Williams hustled home when the throw from the catcher to the pitcher ricocheted and bounced away from the plate.

Ricketts fired the first four innings, giving up just one hit with three strike outs. Parnaby tossed two innings, giving up two runs with a walk and two strike outs, and Rodriguez threw the final frame giving up a hit with a strike out.

The Alumnae's Kate Robinson fired a complete game in the loss. She gave up nine runs on 10 hits with a walk and four strike outs.

Hawai`i's Sarah Robinson also had a game-high three RBI and a run scored. Iwata went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Enrique, Rodriguez, and Aguirre all had one double a piece.

After the game, members of the record-setting 2010 softball team headed to the Stan Sheriff Center where they received commemorative bracelets marking the program's first appearance to the Women's College World Series last season.
