HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team used a late surge to earn an 84-70 victory over Cal State Fullerton on the second night of the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Bows (2-0) ended the game with a 14-0 run to race past the Titans and put itself in position for the tournament title on Monday night.

UH got another balanced effort, led by senior Bill Amis who tallied a career-high 24 points while adding nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Bo Barnes continued his  hot shooting, scoring 19 points. Hiram Thompson scored 17 of his 18 points after the break, while adding a team-high seven assists. Zane Johnson rebounded from a rough opening night with 13 points, including a key three-pointer in UH's decisive run.

The 'Bows, who held a six point lead at half, shot 64 percent from the floor in the second half and finished the game 18-of-23 from the line.

It was a back-and-forth first half as the teams exchanged the lead five times. A 15-3 UH run midway through the first half energized the crowd and turned a six-point UH deficit into a six-point lead, a margin they would maintain going into halftime.

UH led by as many as eight points midway through the second half, but the Titans (0-2) continued to hang around and eventually tied the score, 70-70 with less than four minutes to play. However that's when the Rainbow Warriors clamped down, holding CSFscoreless the rest of the way as the Titans missed their final seven shots.

The Rainbow Warriors will now face Central Michigan in an ESPN nationally televised game on Monday, Nov. 15 at 11:00 p.m. It will be a “Blackout” as all fans are encouraged to wear black at the game as the UH aims for its 12th Rainbow Classic title.
