Swimming Concludes Day Two Of Arena Invite With Five Top Finishes

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming teams completed day two of the Arena Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego Friday night, following 24 events. UH continued an already strong day two with five top finishes.
 
In the men's 100 fly sophomore Luca Mazzurana took second with a time of 47.76 just behind UNLV's Cody Roberts (47.45) while Sean Reilly (48.59) and Ryan Pickett (49.30) followed with sixth and ninth place finishes.    
 
Pickett, Mazzurana, Reilly and junior Perry Sharify took fourth in the men's 200 medley relay finishing in 1:30.44. Juniors Dan Worden finished 12th in the 400 IM (4:04.22) and Steve Allnutt finished 21st with a time of 4:05.39 for UH in bonus heat.

In the men's 100 breast, Sharify led UH taking seventh with a time of 55.96. Sophomore Bryce Bertoli(57.73), newcomers Peter Chi (58.12) and Cody Miller (57.70) followed in 14th, 16th and 17th. James Clarke (1:40.32) led UH in the men's 200 free, finishing 12th while teammates Vlad Anastasescu (1:40.07) and Chris Dominguez (1:40.91) followed with 17th and 19th place finishes.

With 20 teams in the mix for the women's competition, the Rainbow Wahine earned two top finishes. Junior Maura Barrett grabbed sixth place in the women's 200 free with a 1:49.08 finish while senior Ricarda Schellenberg (1:52.36) also earned bonus points for UH coming in 23rd.
 
The Rainbow Wahine placed eighth in the 800 free relay in 7:29.39 with a team of  Chritsa Prior, Schellenberg, Barrett and sophomore Annathea Accornero.
 
Prior finished 24th in the 100 back with a time of 57.30 for the women while Bogdanovski (5.67) and Pickett (50.89) took ninth and tenth for the men.
 
To finish the day, a relay team made up of Barrett, Jessica Stacy, Madeleine Takaki, and Prior finished 16th in the women's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.85.
 
UH concludes the Arena Invitational tomorrow, Nov. 20 with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT.
