Eastern Michigan Defeats Hawai`i, 83-67

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (1-1) fell to Eastern Michigan (2-2), 83-67 on the second day of the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic. Senior Megan Tinnin led UH with 17 points—including five three-pointers while junior Breanna Arbuckle had her third career double-double with a 16 point, 10 rebound performance today at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
Tinnin also snatched three rebounds, had two assists, a blocked shot and a team-high three steals. Tinnin is now just seven three-pointers away from tying the UH career record of 128 which was set by Nani Cockett in 1998.

Arbuckle was tough in the paint, hitting 5-of-11 mostly at close range while grabbing five offensive and five defensive rebounds. She also had three blocks and three assists in 32 minutes of action. Shawna-Lei Kuehu led UH with five assists and added nine points and two rebounds.
 
The 'Bows battled in the first half, but after three ties and 10 lead changes the Eagles started to pull away by capitalizing on turnovers. UH trailed 44-31 at the end of the first half. At the break, Arbuckle led UH with nine points and six rebounds but was just 3-of-8 from the free-throw line. Tinnin was right behind with eight points plus two steals and an assist.
 
The Eagles started the second half on a tear, extending their lead to as much as 22 midway through the half. The Eagles were led by a pair of 20 point performances by Sydney Huntley and Tavelyn James. The speedy Huntley was 7-for-11 from the floor and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe for a game-high 23 points while James tallied 21 points for EMU.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will face Oregon State in the tournament finale on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
