Swimming Concludes Arena Invitational With Ten Top Place Finishes

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's and women's swimming teams concluded the final day of the Arena Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego tonight following 12 events.The Rainbow Warriors finished fourth, while the Rainbow Wahine took twelfth.
 
After earning ten top eight finishes in the first two days of the invitational, UH added ten more on day three, concluding the meet with a total of 16 finishes in the finals.
 
It was a good day for the Rainbow Warriors, who landed seven individual swimmers in championship heats. Junior Dan Worden led UH in the 1650 free, grabbing first place with a time of 15:48.62. Junior Colin Coombs (15:49.95) and senior Steve Allnutt (16:01.21) followed in third and sixth place.
 
Junior Lazar Bogdanovski took third in the men's 200 back with a time of 1:47.24 behind Stanford's Matt Thompson (1:43.40) and Matt Swanston (1:43.50).
 
In the 100 free, junior Sean Reilly (44.69) led the Rainbow Warriors in fourth place while senior Ilia Reyes (45.00) finished seventh. Junior Perry Sharify finished fourth in the men's 100 breast with a time of 2:00.40 while sophomore Luca Mazzurana also took fourth place for UH in the 200 fly with 1:46.56.
 
A squad made of Reyes, Reilly, Mazzurana and Vlad Anastasescu took third place behind UNLV (2:57.57) and UC Santa Barbara (2:58.22) in the men's 400 free relay with a time of 2:58.58.
 
For the Rainbow Wahine, junior Maura Barrett finished seventh in the 100 free with a time of 50.08. In the women's 400 free relay, a team made of Barrett, Christa Prior, Jessica Stacy and Annathea Accornero finished seventh with a time of 3:24.38.
 
Next the Rainbow Warriors host Minnesota in a dual meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Compex on Dec. 30 at 12:00 p.m.
