Rainbow Wahine Seek 11th WAC Tournament Title This Week

LAS VEGAS – The No. 3 University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will take aim at its 11th Western Athletic Conference Tournament title which runs Monday, Nov. 22 through Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Orleans Arena.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (27-1, 16-0 WAC) are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, which includes the top six finishers in the regular season standings. UH receives a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 4 Boise State and No. 5 Idaho in a semifinal match on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. PT. New Mexico State is the tournament's No. 2 seed also receives a first round bye. The Aggies will face the winner of No. 3 Utah State and No. 6 Nevada.
 
The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. PT.
 
Hawai'i has won its last 22 matches and completed the school's first-ever sweep of the conference season. The Rainbow Wahine won all 16 WAC matches in straight sets and currently own a school-record 59-set win streak.
 
The tournament will be held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the second straight year. Last season, UH swept New Mexico State, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23 in the championship match before a pro-Hawai'i crowd of 1,990.

Wednesday, Nov. 24
Winner Match 3 vs. Winner Match 4, 6:30 p.m. (ESPNU-HD)
 
Where: Orleans Arena; Las Vegas, Nev.
Television: ESPNU will televise the championship match live with Anne Marie Anderson (play-by-play) and Elizabeth Moreau (color) calling the action.

WAC Tournament Notes
The Rainbow Wahine own a 33-2 all-time record in the WAC Tournament since joining the conference in 1996. UH's only two losses occurred in the championship match of the 1996 and '97 tournaments to Brigham Young. Hawai'i redeemed themselves in 1998 with a memorable five-set marathon win over the Cougars. The 10-time champion Rainbow Wahine have defeated New Mexico State in the championship match in each of the last four tournaments. Hawai'i has also advanced to all 12 championship matches with 22 sweeps, eight four-set wins and three five-set victories.
