Warriors Wrap Up WAC Play At New Mexico State

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team closes out Western Athletic Conference play at New Mexico State, Saturday, Nov. 27 at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M. Kick-off is 1:00 p.m. MT (10:00 a.m. HT).

With a win, the Warriors (8-3, 6-1 WAC) have a chance to tie the second-best conference mark in school history. Hawai'i finished with a 7-1 WAC mark in 2002 and '06 while its only unblemished record occurred in 2007 (8-0). UH is also seeking its fourth road win this season, which would tie for the second most in school history.

UH is coming off a 41-7 victory over San Jose State last Saturday in Honolulu. In the win, quarterback Bryant Moniz broke the school's single-game passing record with 560 yards. Slot receivers Kealoha Pilares (154) and Greg Salas (144) accounted for 298 yards receiving and two scores and the UH defense sacked Spartan quarterbacks eight times while limiting SJSU to only 164 yards of total offense. Linebacker Aaron Brown had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown in the second quarter. Both Moniz and Brown were selected as WAC players of the week.

The Aggies (2-9, 1-6) have lost their last three games including a 52-6 defeat at Nevada last Saturday. Running the offense is former Leilehua High School (O'ahu) quarterback true freshman Andrew Manley, who started the last two games. He threw for 216 yards and a TD against Louisiana Tech and 220 yards last week against the Wolf Pack.

Hawai'i has won all six meetings against the Aggies, including both times in Las Cruces, N.M. - 49-30 in 2006 and 42-30 in 2008. Last season, the Warriors won 24-6 at Aloha Stadium. UH built an early 17-0 halftime lead while Salas set a then-single-game school record with 16 catches for 196 yards.

The Warriors close out the regular season by hosting UNLV, Saturday, Dec. 4 at Aloha Stadium. Kick-off is 5:30 p.m. UH will honor 30 seniors during the traditional “Senior Night” ceremony following the game.
