Murphy Rips HI #1 All-Time 8:52.41 3K @ KIF #1

LIHU‘E — 2010 HHSAA 1500/3000 Meter Champ, Island School SR Pierce Murphy has recorded the Hawaii High School all-time #1 mark in the 3000 Meter Run, with his 8:52.41 (FAT) at Kauai Interscholastic Federation Track and Field season opener yesterday, 2/24/2011 at Vidinha Stadium, Lihue, Kauai, HI.

Murphy, an Island School (Lihue, Kauai) SR and Colorado University (Boulder, CO) recruit has been running between 60 and 65 miles a week, doing double workouts four days a week, according to Coach/Dad Shawn Murphy.

"Pierce was shooting for 70 seconds a lap in the 3000m race. He said he knew at the mile mark with a time of 4:45 that he had a good chance" at bettering former Leilehua SR Bryce Jenkin's HHSAA record time of 8:52.90, Murphy reported. "Knowing that he will be running next year for CU Boulder is an inspiration"
