300m= 36.82
400m= 51.61
Current Record HolderSydney McLaughlin (Union Catholic, Scotch Plains, New Jersey)
Year Records Were Set: 2017

Why: These records were set only a few years ago, but they were set by one of the youngest U.S. track and field Olympians ever,  Union Catholic's (NJ) Sydney McLaughlin. She is a once-in-a-lifetime type of talent, and her records have the potential to stand for a long time.

The current U.S. No. 1 in the 300m is 37.53, held by Britton Wilson from Mills Godwin (VA) High School. Although Wilson has improved on her already impressive PR from last year of 38.38, she is still just a little under a second off the national record time set by McLaughlin

The 400m record currently looks just as much out of reach as the 300m record. Although Trenton's (NJ) Athing Mu has the top time in the nation with a  U.S. No. 6 all-time mark in the 400m, she is almost a full second off the national record.

Mu and another young talent in Run U Xpress Track Club's (NC) Kayla Davis could both chip away at these records over the next few years, with Mu being a junior and Davis only a freshman.
