In two weeks time the best high school teams from Jamaica will make the annual trip up to Franklin Field and the University of Pennsylvania for the 129th running of the Penn Relays Carnival. These athletes will compete in individual events throughout the weekend and be the highlight of the relay competition.
Across the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800m relays, Jamaican teams are the defending champions in five of the six relays. Below are some basic facts heading into the relays and on the following pages you can see the previews for the 4x1, 4x4, and 4x8 teams coming from Jamaica.
4x100m Relay (Girls; Boys)
Event Records: Edwin Allen - 43.62 (2019); Calabar - 39.00 (2017)
Defending Champions: Hydel; Excelsior
Last American Team To Win: Long Beach Poly (2011); Glenville (2004)
Key Insight: Jamaican teams have won a combined 36 of the previous 38 4x100m COA's.
4x400m Relay (Girls; Boys)
Event Records: Hydel - 3:32.77 (2022); Calabar - 3:03.79 (2018)
Defending Champions: Hydel; Kingston College
Last American Teams To Win: Eleanor Roosevelt (2008); Long Beach Poly (2007)
Key Insight: Both Hydel and Kingston College are going for 4-Peats. Hydel is additionally going for their sixth title in seven years.
4x800m Relay (Girls; Boys)
Event Records: Vere Technical - 8:37.91 (1991); Calabar - 7:26.09 (2018)
Defending Champions: Union Catholic; Jamaica College
Last American Teams To Win: Union Catholic (2024); Chatham (2023)
Key Insight: In an event normally dominated by Jamaica (they have won eight of the previous 10 on the boys' side), they are facing off with Union Catholic who is going for the 3-Peat all while Jamaica tries to end is longest title drought on the girls side since 2011.
