4 National Elite Marks at 4/24/2010 BIIF All-Comers at Kea'au High School

Ka'u High School SR Jacob Edwards PRd in 4 events scoring 52 points and earning 3 National Elite marks, leading his team to a 4th place finish in the Team Scoring at BIIF All-Comers 4/24/2010 at Kea'au High School.

 

Edwards posted a HI#1/National Elite/PR mark in the Boys Triple Jump (45-05.50), then immediately entered and won the Boys 300m hurdle event with his HI#1/National Elite/PR Stadium Record 38.46. Earlier he won the Long Jump (20-9) and 110HH (14.56) and placed 4th with a PR in the 100m (11.36). Edwards later went on to take second to Waiakea SR Kaimi Scott (22.47) with a PR in the Boys 200m at 22.497, outpacing Kea'au SO Jesse Huihui (22.500) in a true photo-finish.

 

Kamehameha Hawaii SR Kaopua Sutton earned her National Elite Mark in the Girls Discus Throw (126-07.50). Sutton also won the Girls Shot Put with her 32-08, just ahead of Konawaena JR Misilosa Uulopa (32-04.00) and Kea'au SR  Jacquelyn Kaio-Goo (32-01.75).

 

The host Kea'au Girls outscored  Hawaii Preparatory Academy 97-65 for the Girls Team Title. For the Boys, it was Kamehameha Schools Hawaii outscoring the host Cougars of Keaau High School 84-80 for the Boys Team Title.

 

Another fine day was had by Kea'au SO Azmera Hammouri-Davis who was the top female point scorer, earning 26 points with her victory in the Girls Triple Jump (32-03.75), a 2nd place finish in the Girls 300m Hurdles (50.42), a 3rd place finish in the Girls 100m Hurdles (18.13) and by placing 5th in the Girls Long Jump (14-05.50).

 

Kea'au SO Randi Estrada chipped in 16+ points with a first place finish in the Girls 200m (26.86) ahead of  Waiakea SO Teisha Nacis (27.55) and Ka'u FR  Kristina Padrigo (27.77). Estrada anchored the Kea'au Girls 4x400m Relay with an Automatic HHSAA Qualifying time of 4:18.55. She had earlier placed 3rd in the Girls High Jump (4-8) behind strong performances by Waikea SR Erika Cushnie (5-1) and Hawaii Prep SR Mindy Campbell (4-10). Campbell and Cushnie have previously qualified for the HHSAA Championship Meet which is being held 5/14-15/2010 at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama, Oahu campus.

 

The Kamehameha Boys earned 9 points in the 100m behind strong performances turned in by SO Kaenen Akau (11.35) Francis Blas III (11.58) and Everett McKee (11.70). In the Boys 110 High Hurdle event, the Warriors earned points from Blas III (16.05), McKee (16.69) and SO Easten Tanimoto (18.12) . In all, the Warriors had athletes in scoring position in 11 of 16 events.

 

Kamehameha SR Manta Dircks chipped in 13 points, placing second in the Boys Triple Jump (43-02.50), 4th in the Boys High Jump (5-8) and 6th in the Boys Long Jump (18-11.75).

 

McKee also placed second to Edwards in the 300m Hurdles (41.64), while teammates Isaac Derego (12-0) and Max Shimamoto (11-0) placed 1st and 3rd respectively in the Boys Pole Vault. The Warriors also won the Boys 4x400m Relay  (3:35.55).

 

Kea'au SR Daniel Brooks earned the #2 time in Hawaii this year in the Boys 800m (2:00.59), outkicking Honoka'a JR Chris Mosch ( 2:05.84), Kohala SR Ethan Meikle (2:06.36) and Kealakehe SR Juan  Sepulveda (2:06.85).

 

Meikle and his teammate Kohala SR Kelson Kawai had earlier both cleared 6-2 in the Boys High Jump for automatic berths into the HHSAA Championship Meet. Kawai was declared the victor with fewer misses.



Honoka'a JR Tialana Greenwell doubled in the distance races, winning the 1500m (5:15.33) and 3000m (11:36.19) runs.

 

BIIF Track and Field action continues next Saturday 5/1/2010 with a Last Chance Qualifier at Kea'au High School beginning at 2pm.
