Local standout Pierce Murphy is breaking records and letting the mainland know, there are great runners in Hawaii. Recently, at a KIF race Murphy dominated in epic fashion with a 15:55 3 mile victory. So dominant was his performance on that day, the second place finisher was more than two and a half minutes behind.
Murphy broke into his own this past spring track season. Then only a sophomore, Pierce placed second in the 3000 meter with a 9:03.73 and 1500 meter with a 4:06.22. Impressive times for someone so young in the sport. With already a course record and a blazing 3-mile island run Pierce could factor into the individual national scene.
Going back over the annuals of history we can not verify if a Hawaii individual has ever qualified for the Foot Locker National Championships. Should Pierce Murphy continue to train hard and push the limits of his ability and talent, he may be the first. You heard that here first.
